Today (one day earlier than I expected) A List Apart published my first article in more than four years. It's called JavaScript triggers and it's about JavaScript triggers — and if you don't know what JavaScript triggers are you need to read the article.
I've used JavaScript triggers ever since writing my Usable Forms script in May 2003. The ALA article is a translation/reworking of the JavaScript part of my Dutch Structuur in de chaos article. Nonetheless, the current article has one more feature.
The drawback of my trigger technique was that the triggers don't validate. Fortunately ALA enlisted the help of J. David Eisenberg to solve the problem. He wrote the accompanying Validating a Custom DTD article, where he explains everything you need to know to validate pages that use custom triggers.
Happy reading.
